The San Francisco Mint tickets & upcoming events

The San Francisco Mint is more than just a historic building, it’s a local icon that’s been part of the city’s fabric for over a century. Originally opened in 1854, the mint moved to its current home on Hermann Street in 1937, and trust me, it’s a sight to see. Walking inside, you can almost feel the buzz of history, especially knowing this place produced the first silver eagle coins in 1986, a pretty big deal in the coin world. The architecture alone is worth the visit, with its sturdy granite facade and grand interior that’s seen countless changes but still holds onto its old-school charm. If you’re into numismatics or just want to soak up some local history, it’s a must-see. Plus, it’s super close to the main library and near the War Memorial, so you can easily make a day of exploring. Honestly, the mint feels like stepping back in time but still very much alive with stories to tell. Whether you’re into coin collecting or just curious about San Francisco’s past, visiting the mint is like uncovering a hidden treasure in the city’s cultural landscape.
